Board adopts procurement updates, waives a travel-policy deadline and appoints audit committee; recognizes volunteer firefighters

The Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors approved several administrative actions and recognized long-serving volunteers during its regular meeting.

County staff summarized proposed changes to the county procurement policy intended to align internal thresholds with state code. The staff presentation explained that purchases under $10,000 would require an oral or written quote (one vendor), purchases between $10,000 and $200,000 would require soliciting three quotes and purchases above $200,000 would require an IFB or RFP; professional-services thresholds were updated to match state limits. A board member moved to approve the policy subject to editorial and formatting corrections, and the motion carried with recorded affirmative votes.

Separately, the board authorized a one-time waiver of the travel policy to allow processing of previously submitted travel vouchers for a board member. The motion passed with one recorded abstention.

The board appointed Chairman Jefferson to the audit committee by motion and recorded votes in favor. The meeting also included the presentation of previously adopted resolutions recognizing multiple volunteer firefighters for long service (examples read aloud included Bobby Little, Stanley Watson, John Wayne Keller, Robert Gray, Roger Hardy, William Weigel and Bill Chapman). Supervisors thanked the honorees and their families.

The procurement policy, travel waiver and appointment were approved without supplemental ordinance changes at the meeting; staff will finalize formatting corrections to the procurement document and execute the waivers as directed.
