Commission schedules Dominion Energy presentation, site tour on battery energy storage

Isle of Wight County staff reported July 22 that Dominion Energy has accepted an invitation to present to the Planning Commission about battery energy storage facilities at the commission’s August 26 meeting and offered a site tour on the morning of October 30 at a New Kent storage facility for commission members.
Community development staff said the county circulated a proposed battery energy storage facility ordinance to EMS and Dominion Energy for review and that staff will follow up with Dominion on specific topics the commission would like covered, including safety and siting considerations. Staff noted the tour is restricted to commission members because of group size and that staff will provide further details as the date approaches.
No action was taken other than scheduling the presentation and tour; staff said it will bring a new‑business item to designate a meeting date for the tour if needed.
