Community development director Amy Ring summarized the changes, which would let permitted wall sign area be split among building facades (total wall sign area capped at 10% of the building facade or 200 square feet, whichever is less), exempt temporary signs from permits for up to 90 days per calendar year if they remain in good repair, and limit nonresidential properties to two flag signs and one banner sign plus a single portable sign. The revisions also propose a list of prohibited, non‑durable materials such as plywood and cardboard.
Staff recommended approval of the package, and commissioners voted to move the item forward to the Board of Supervisors on a roll call vote.
The Board of Supervisors’ consideration is the next step; the planning commission did not adopt the ordinance itself, rather it forwarded the recommended changes for board action.
