San Antonio — The City Council on Feb. 5 issued two ceremonial proclamations: the mayor proclaimed Feb. 12–March 1, 2026 as the official San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo season and Feb. 2026 as Black History Month in San Antonio.
Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones read the rodeo proclamation, noting the organization's scholarship and youth programs and the event’s long history in the East Side. A representative of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo thanked the council and said the rodeo brings substantial economic activity and cultural programming to the city.
Multiple council members offered brief remarks praising the rodeo’s volunteer leadership and youth outreach. “I love the rodeo. I'm so excited to go again this year,” Councilwoman Spears said during her remarks.
On Black History Month, Councilmember McKee Rodriguez read the city’s proclamation and urged residents to reflect on the theme, “a century of Black History Month commemorations.” Several members used the occasion to highlight local historic preservation efforts and upcoming community events.
These proclamations are ceremonial recognitions recorded in the council minutes; they do not create legal obligations but signal the council’s support for the listed community efforts and events.
