At the Jan. 14 meeting parks staff reviewed the town’s 2026 events calendar and related logistics, and athletic-association representatives updated the board on registrations and fundraising.
Athletics: Kyle, representing soccer, said registration is open with roughly 101 registrants and listed practice start dates (Ursul teams in early March, in-house in early April) and field locations under consideration (Roberts Mill Park, Northwest Memorial Park, and a possible site at Runnymede Elementary). Board members discussed coordinating with the community fishing derby on May 9 to reduce parking conflicts; the athletic group agreed to operate a snack shack and reconcile ticket sales after the event.
Events and vendors: Staff said vendor applications for Wine, Art & Music Festival are nearly full and outlined vendor fees: food vendors will pay a tiered fee for Independence Day (earlier registration discounted), while craft vendors pay standard flat rates. The WineFest vendor fee remains $100. Staff confirmed orders for event supplies including 4,000 filled Easter eggs and fishing-derby prizes and said they plan to add Taneytown 250 committee tables at several events.
Donations and small improvements: The Taneytown Senior Center donated a portable two-section stage (8x12 assembled) and coat racks; staff accepted the items for use at smaller events and as equipment in the multipurpose building. Staff also described volunteer-driven maintenance work planned for the spring (tree-tube servicing at Bollinger and pond cleanup at Memorial Park).
Next steps: Athletic groups will coordinate schedules around blackout dates and upcoming tournaments; staff will finalize vendor agreements and continue vendor outreach. The Athletic Association’s next meeting is scheduled for March 11 and the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board will meet Feb. 11.
