Sykesville council unanimously approves alcohol authorization for downtown events

The Sykesville Town Council voted unanimously on Feb. 9 to adopt Resolution No. 2026-01, authorizing the consumption and possession of alcoholic beverages on town property during designated Downtown Sykesville Connection (DSC) events.
The resolution, described by the mayor as an annual, boilerplate authorization, allows DSC to apply for temporary liquor licenses for events including the Art and Wine Festival, Sippin' on Summer, the Craft Beer Festival and vendor sampling at the farmers market. The mayor read the resolution summary aloud before a council member moved to approve and Council member Rees seconded the motion. "All in favor, please say aye," the presiding official said; the council responded with a unanimous aye vote.
Council members did not engage in extended debate on the measure; staff described the language as consistent with prior years and intended to permit vendor samples only. The mayor noted the resolution is reviewed annually.
The resolution will allow DSC to proceed with licensing applications to the appropriate state and town authorities for the specified 2026 events.
