Brandon Smith was sworn in and seated as a Sykesville town council member Monday night, and the council unanimously approved a motion naming him the council liaison to the planning commission.
The council administered the oath of office after Mayor-for-the-evening (referred to in the meeting as Elsie) invited Smith to the dais. Councilman Dyer moved to appoint Smith as the planning-commission liaison; Council President Carter seconded the motion, and the council voted in favor by voice vote.
The liaison appointment follows the November vacancy caused by Councilman Stonefield's departure; council members said Smith has served as a planning commissioner and community volunteer since about 2020. No conditions or amendments to Smith’s appointment were recorded.
