Council approves $1.25 million GMP to Gay Construction for Chalker Park; playground equipment to be contracted separately

Kennesaw — The City Council on Feb. 2 approved an amendment awarding Gay Construction a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $1,254,662.52 as the construction manager-at-risk for Chalker Park.
Bill (parks presenter) reminded council Gay was previously approved as CMAR on Nov. 3, 2025 (resolution 2025-72). He said the GMP covers construction management services but does not include playground equipment or playground-material costs. Councilmember Drabney emphasized that playground equipment will be presented as a separate contract and is expected to return to council for approval at a future meeting.
The resolution passed unanimously (5-0). Staff indicated the playground-equipment contract will be brought back for council review, and council acknowledged that the GMP figure excludes those items.
