Kennesaw council adopts proposed SPLOST 2028 project list; public meeting set for March

Kennesaw’s City Council unanimously approved a proposed list of projects for the city to submit to Cobb County for the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) 2028 referendum.
A SPLOST committee made up of council members and staff presented the list and said it reflects the city’s priority needs for the next six years. “Per the committee’s evaluation, the proposed projects reflect the city's priority of needs for the next 6 years,” the committee representative told the council during the Dec. 15 meeting. The county has scheduled a SPLOST referendum for November 2026.
The committee and council noted opportunities for public input: a joint meeting with Cobb County staff will be held March 10 at the Ben Robertson Community Center, followed by additional city-only meetings for further feedback. Councilmember Pat emphasized resident access to the process, saying the community should have “at least a couple of opportunities to come in and provide their input.”
The council voted to approve the proposed SPLOST 2028 project list by a 5-0 vote. Council members did not specify individual project dollar amounts in the presentation, though one council member referenced the overall scale of proposals as roughly $48,000,000 in total project value.
Next steps: the city will coordinate the March 10 joint meeting with county staff and continue local outreach before submitting the finalized project list for the county-run November 2026 referendum.
