Dr. Drobni told the council he had led an open search and that Chanel, who had served as assistant director and planner, emerged as the recommended candidate. "If I'm offered the position, great," he said he had told her during interviews; after evaluating internal and external applicants, he asked the council to ratify the appointment. The motion to ratify was made and seconded and the council approved the appointment unanimously.
Chanel Campbell addressed the council and said, "I am a woman of very few words, but what I will say is thank you guys for this opportunity," and pledged to give “my best a 110” in the role. Daryl Simmons addressed the chamber at length, thanked colleagues and council, recounted his start in 2001 and highlighted departmental gains — including adding GIS capacity and strengthening community development staff — and urged the council and community to support Campbell.
The council’s action formally fills the Planning and Zoning Administrator role; council members congratulated both the outgoing director and the incoming administrator during public remarks.
