City manager outlines timeline for 2026 proposed budget and department reviews

That proposal is expected to be delivered to councilors in early to mid-April, after which the council will have multiple meetings to ask questions and request changes before a revised budget is presented for further council action.
Councilors discussed coordination with the school committee and several members said they planned to attend the superintendent’s budget presentation to improve early engagement and avoid late surprises in the process. The manager noted a superintendent presentation scheduled for the coming Wednesday and said handouts and a Zoom option would be made available to councilors.
No formal budget decisions were made at the workshop; the city manager noted the schedule and next steps for staff review and council deliberations.
