San Angelo’s Animal Shelter launched a city-operated adoption program on Oct. 1 designed to reduce the number of unaltered animals in city limits, expand adoption pathways and lower euthanasia of adoptable animals.
Shelter services manager Amanda Weddle described the process: potential adopters sign in, meet with an outcome coordinator who conducts an interview, and then have a meet-and-greet with the animal. If the match is approved, staff complete paperwork, schedule the animal for spay/neuter surgery with a vendor veterinarian, microchip the animal and arrange post-operative pickup from the vet.
