San Angelo shelter reports November adoptions, transfers and a 54% release rate

Amanda Wheedle, Animal Services Manager, presented the shelter’s November 2025 performance figures to the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, reporting 39 official adoptions and an additional 11 adoptions that were pending surgeries. "We had 39 official adoptions," Wheedle said, and staff noted the pending surgeries meant some adoptions were contracted but not completed in November.

Wheedle also reported transfers to rescues and owner redemptions: "We had 39 transfers, to rescues, 21 redeemed by owner, and 4 wildlife releases," she said. She reported the shelter had 288 animals in custody and gave a release rate of 54.19% for the month. On deceased counts, Wheedle supplied a breakdown by animal type and cause and corrected a transcript typing error during the report.

On field operations, Wheedle summarized calls and enforcement work: the shelter logged hundreds of field calls and dozens of bite investigations; staff said bite incidents included both animal-to-animal and animal-to-human encounters. She provided a citation breakdown for the month, including secure-enclosure, dog-at-large, failure-to-spay-or-neuter and failure-to-vaccinate categories.

Wheedle’s presentation prompted committee questions about capacity and how the shelter classifies isolation, quarantine and puppy areas; she said those spaces in the main building remain in use and that reported kennel-run counts for a proposed expansion would not directly change the official capacity calculation.

The committee received the report; the consent agenda approving prior meeting minutes was passed earlier in the meeting.
