Parks staff at the Aug. 5 Rockwall City Parks and Recreation Board meeting summarized maintenance work, upcoming programming and a staff change while answering board questions about amenities and operations.
Speaker 4 and Speaker 5 (parks staff) reported recent work including tree removals, fountain replacements and interior cleanup of an old Methodist church. Speaker 5 said staff installed a sign at the boat ramp intended to discourage unauthorized rental operations that had been using harbor and dock areas. "The sign at the boat ramp was, again, to discourage the illegal operations of rentals that were starting to have shipped down there," Speaker 5 said.
Staff also reviewed renovations at Gloria Williams Park and noted the park has been substantially renovated "from one end to the other"; photos were available for board review. When asked about restroom plans at Gloria Williams, Speaker 5 said neighborhood parks "generally don't get restrooms" and cited a prior estimate of almost $1,000,000 to install restroom facilities because of sewer line locations and building costs.
On programming, Speaker 6 reported that Concert by the Lake and the July 4 events were successful despite some rain, and staff previewed upcoming fall events including Scarana Square and Hometown Christmas. Speaker 5 stated both pools will close on Friday; exact calendar dates for fall and winter programming were presented as forthcoming.
The board also acknowledged staff member Jason Alvarado; Speaker 5 said it was Alvarado's last day and that he had served "at least 6" years. Board members thanked Alvarado for his dedication.
The meeting concluded with routine procedural items and adjournment at about 6:18 p.m.
