City staff briefed the council on progress for the North Water Street townhouse redevelopment. Staff said the city has acquired four properties designated for demolition and site stabilization, will prepare a demolition bid for the February council meeting with a March 1 bid release target, and anticipates demolition and site stabilization to be complete by June 1, 2026.
Staff said grant funding from the Department of Housing and Community Development will cover demolition and site-prep costs and that leftover grant funds could be used for initial infrastructure work such as water meters or sewer hookups. Staff reported preliminary outreach to developers but said interest will rise once the structures are removed and the site is surveyed.
Council asked for continued updates on bidding and developer outreach. Staff reiterated the goal of beginning construction in January 2027 pending final site work and developer interest.
