Frostburg names restaurateur Benito Reyes 2025 Spirit of Frostburg award winner

Council presentation materials said the award is funded from the city’s 2012 bicentennial fund administered by the Foundation for Frostburg and includes a cash stipend and commemorative artwork. The mayor and council noted Reyes’s long record of donations to youth baseball, soccer and football teams, regular support for Frostburg State University and Mountain Ridge High School events, and rapid response to community needs during floods and the COVID-19 pandemic. The council also credited Reyes for providing translation services and meals during emergencies.
Accepting the honor, Benito Reyes thanked the community and said he has called Frostburg home for 26 years. “I just wanna say thanks to everybody,” Reyes said. Council members and the mayor offered congratulations and described Reyes as a longtime friend and community champion.
The presentation highlighted previous winners chosen by the mayor and council and noted the Spirit of Frostburg award is intended to celebrate individuals and organizations that enhance quality of life in the city. No formal council action was required for the award presentation. The meeting then proceeded to departmental reports and other agenda business.
