Council reappoints REDC members, approves boundary agreement and sign variance
Summary
The Rockwall City Council unanimously reappointed two members and appointed a new member to the Rockwall Economic Development Corporation, approved a boundary agreement near State Highway 66 and granted a sign-plan variance for a commercial property at 401 Rusk.
The council unanimously reappointed John Hohensheld and Kane Pierce to the Rockwall Economic Development Corporation and appointed Jeff Thompson to a term effective Jan. 1, 2026.
Mayor Pro Tem Tim Mueller moved and the council approved a boundary-agreement authorization allowing the city attorney to finalize documents and the city manager to execute necessary documents for city-owned land in the vicinity of State Highway 66.
The council also approved a sign-plan and related variances for a Ridgepointe Commercial property at 401 Rusk. Applicant representative Kevin Lafear explained the request to allow two monument signs (one facing each street) because of the site’s dual frontages, an aesthetic deviation from a masonry border requirement on one side of the monument, and a potential setback variance likely needed after TxDOT altered the right-of-way years earlier. The council approved staff recommendations and the requested variances unanimously.
