Village staff demonstrated a new online permitting portal during the Dec. 8 Plan Commission meeting, showing features intended to reduce front‑counter calls and help applicants complete permit applications more easily.
The portal allows address‑based searches for permit types, the ability to save an in‑progress application and resume it later, multiple contact roles per project, checklists and sample site drawings, and PIN‑based login (PIN sent by email/text rather than a persistent password). Staff said the system went live during the preceding weekend and that staff are working with the vendor on minor refinements. Tutorial videos and checklists will be posted to guide users.
Commissioners responded positively to the user‑experience improvements and asked about account management for businesses and inspection reporting. Staff said business accounts can be set up by email and that inspection history and expired permit reports are available to staff.
Staff asked whether the commission wanted the demonstration now or to defer; the commission accepted the brief presentation during the meeting.
