Residents' concerns prompt Suamico to review firearm-discharge map; staff to brief Health & Safety

Trustee Stevens said residents on Lost Trail and in Sunny Meadows asked staff to review where firearm discharge is permitted; under current interpretation lots larger than two acres remain in areas where discharge is allowed. Staff explained the discrepancy traces to how certified survey maps and subdivisions were previously coded and that the village had not yet published an updated 2025 map.
Trustee concerns focused on proximity of newly developed parcels to smaller lots where families and children could be present. One trustee emphasized that in less-wooded fields "those bullets just are gonna fly," underscoring safety worries. Staff said GIS updates are underway and that the Health & Safety committee will consider the revised map and recommend any changes; staff estimated an initial update in a couple of weeks and a likely Health & Safety recommendation in early 2026.
No formal action was taken; trustees asked staff to return with recommendations once mapping and analysis are complete.
