During discussion of old and new business, board members raised repeated concerns about people riding bicycles, electric bikes and dirt bikes on school tracks and playgrounds and about a large off-campus event that exceeded its permit last year and drove vehicles onto the field. The board noted a similar event is advertised for June 7 and requested staff check permit status and coordinate with the town.
Superintendent Diane Giuseppe and Business Administrator Jorge Cruz discussed enforcement options and the existing policy. Giuseppe cited district policy 54‑55‑14, which prohibits students from bringing motorized bicycles, skateboards, scooters, hoverboards or other motorized modes of transportation on school grounds during the school day. Cruz said anyone using board property without authorization is considered trespassing and can be removed.
Board members asked the administration to: check with the recreation department and town about alternate field locations, require permits and insurance for large events, consider signage about permitted uses, and explore paying overtime for the facilities director to monitor weekend field use if necessary. The board emphasized avoiding damage to turf and track surfaces and asked staff to report back with recommended steps.
