Green Bay council advances ordinances, adopts a comprehensive-plan amendment and schedules possible special meeting on downtown contract

The Green Bay City Council on Tuesday moved through a broad package of routine business, adopting a comprehensive-plan amendment, advancing ordinances and approving multiple commission reports.

The council held a public hearing and then adopted Miscellaneous Ordinance No. 07-25, an amendment to the Go Big Green Bay 2050 comprehensive plan to change the land-use designation for the property at 1109 South Taylor Street from low-density residential to commercial (CPA 25-05). The mayor called for suspension of the rules and votes were taken; the chair declared the ordinances adopted and advanced where indicated.

During the mayor's report the mayor thanked local groups for Martin Luther King Day events and announced that "Myron has decided to withdraw their, in our estimation, meritless, suit." The mayor added the city may hold a special meeting as early as Thursday at 5 p.m. to approve the related contract and move the downtown project forward.

Council members approved a series of committee and departmental reports with minimal discussion, including the Green Bay Police Department's operator-license report, Plan Commission, Finance, Personnel, Public Arts, Traffic/Bicycle/Pedestrian and Sustainability commissions. Several items (items 2–4) were taken up together after the council suspended the rules for a single roll-call consideration on the recommendation of Protection and Policy.

The council also suspended the rules to take up resolutions by roll-call and advanced first-reading ordinances to second reading. The meeting concluded with the usual adjournment motion.

Next steps: the council advanced multiple ordinances to second and final reading; the mayor indicated a possible special meeting Thursday to approve a downtown contract if litigation remains withdrawn.
