Neola 2080 agreement tabled as residents press county on proposed stop sign

Kristen Bracker, the county attorney, asked the board to table consideration of a proposed 2080 agreement with the City of Neola because revisions from Neola's attorney had not yet been received. "I am requesting that this be tabled for next week," Bracker said, adding she could only circulate draft changes after receiving them.
Several Neola residents used the meeting's public-comment period to oppose a proposed stop control change. Tony Osborne, a local farmer, told the board that large farm trucks and semis cannot safely negotiate the proposed geometry: "I spend on an average $250,000 a year in the city of Neola… I can't make that corner now to go north… I say put up a big yellow flashing stop sign above where it's so everything's avoided." Kyle Jensen, who lives on 1st Street, said he worries about his teenage drivers and rear-end collisions if a four-way stop were added. Business owner Brian Tomaszak warned that semis hauling hazardous materials could be blocked on railroad tracks, increasing spill risk.
Board members repeatedly said no county action would occur that day and encouraged residents to share comments with Neola's City Council and city engineers. The county emphasized it would follow the engineer's process and noted there is farm-to-market funding and a process for changes on that road. Kristen Bracker said she would circulate proposed revisions when they arrived from the city's attorney; the board did not vote on the 2080 agreement at this meeting.
