Speaker 3, introduced at the lectern as chair of the Historic Preservation Commission, said the site inventory is finished and 'It's currently at the state, and they have to approve or disapprove.' The commission documented histories of downtown buildings and sent details to regional planning for a Community Development Block Grant façade project; the commission will next share its finished inventory with a consultant to assess whether a district nomination is viable.
Speaker 3 also updated the board on a related fair building project funded in part by a Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grant. The speaker reported that framing and exterior steel are largely complete, electrical work is in progress, garage doors are on order, and a projected completion date is April 15. Speaker 3 said the CAT grant provided $364,000 and a donation from Tyson helped complete major construction costs, while additional purchases (pens/gates, bleachers, sound system) remain under discussion and fundraising.
After the presentation, Speaker 1 moved that the board acknowledge that a representative of the Historic Preservation Commission presented the final report and authorize the chair to sign; the board seconded and approved the acknowledgment by voice 'Aye.' No member asked to delay formal acknowledgement.
