Members reported on the Cypress Ridge development, which Spirit Lake has annexed; developers reportedly propose about 55 houses but the sanitary district currently has capacity for roughly 26. Board members said the sanitary sewer district is largely bonded and cannot borrow additional funds, prompting exploration of alternatives. Engineering firms (referred to in the transcript as Bolton and Mink and Beck Engineering) were asked to provide cost estimates, and board members noted a new lift station could cost more than $1,000,000.
A separate item: the Conservation Foundation approved the Sherwood Forest project; county staff are awaiting an exhibit from the drafting attorney before bringing the agreement back to the county board for approval. Board members said the project must be finished by Aug. 1 to retain a significant grant.
Board members emphasized cooperation with municipalities on land-use planning to avoid conflicting designations and noted continued intergovernmental work on north Spirit Lake water-quality projects with the SLPA.
