City staff told the Committee of the Whole on Feb. 9 that operations for 825 Tech Center Drive are progressing and that the city expects to begin operating out of the new facility within about 60–75 days, with a phased 4–5 week move plan.
Director Schultz described prerequisites including life‑safety systems, integration of public‑safety communications, and security measures needed for a secure public‑safety facility. He said the move will be staged so that bulk records and permanent storage transfer first, followed by staff workspaces, with property‑room and chain‑of‑custody moves handled carefully. The plan anticipates a short period when city hall services are closed for the move and a gradual phone and in‑person service transition from the new building.
Staff discussed AV and streaming readiness; streaming servers and some first‑floor IT infrastructure are still being installed, and a local Gahanna company (American Sound) is involved in AV implementation. Conference rooms on each floor will have video‑conferencing capability; council chambers AV and streaming are on the implementation list. Staff indicated a financial recap of the project is likely in May, once books close and tax‑credit/rebate amounts are clearer. The first public meetings in the new chamber are tentatively scheduled in late April.
