The corrections representative said the next step is a needs assessment and study that would be split 50/50 with the state and estimated at a total cost of $185,000. "So the 185,000 is the total cost of the project. So the county shares whatever half of that is," the staff member said.
Commissioners voiced support and staff recorded a consensus to add the phase‑1 detention center study to the capital improvement plan so it can be included in the recommended budget and presented to the planning commission. Staff noted that formal procurement and state participation will need to be confirmed during follow‑up work prior to committing county funds.
Next steps: staff will seek confirmation of state participation, finalize the study scope and funding split, and return procurement and schedule details prior to formal budget adoption.
