Marianne Hudson told the Renton City Council she is requesting an investigation into the conduct of the city’s police chief, saying the chief twice asked her to leave when she attempted to report alleged trafficking and accused the department of smearing victims and witnesses.
"The culture of your police department is that of slave patrol," Hudson said during the public-comment period, and she asked that the council or whoever oversees the chief contact her to accept a complaint for investigation. Hudson said she had already reported the matter to the Criminal Justice Training Center and would follow up with Monica Alexander.
Council members acknowledged the comment and the presiding officer thanked Hudson for speaking; no formal investigation or staff directive was recorded during the meeting.
The matter was raised during public comment and not acted on in open session; the council moved on to the consent agenda after Hudson’s remarks. Any formal investigatory or disciplinary steps would be handled outside the open meeting process and would need to be initiated or directed by the appropriate oversight authority.
