District outlines required comprehensive-plan components: gifted assurances, induction and professional learning

District leaders presented three publicly required components of the comprehensive plan that will be posted for the state's public-review period: gifted assurances, an induction plan and the professional-learning plan.
Dr. Dennis summarized the gifted assurances: the district uses multiple data points (including the CogAT screener, teacher recommendations and benchmark data), screens students in Grade 1 and Grade 3, conducts multidisciplinary evaluations when appropriate, and provides direct services through pull-out, push-in and consultation. "We screen students in first grade, and we screen all students in third grade," Dr. Dennis said, describing the child-find practices and the use of several measures before eligibility decisions.
On induction, district leaders said they require a two-year induction for all new professional faculty (not waiverable) that includes non-evaluative mentoring, biweekly instructional coaching in year one, coaching cycles and action-research projects in year two, plus onboarding supports for administrators. Leaders described these elements as part of a retention strategy and said they collect ongoing feedback to refine supports.
The professional-learning component ties district priorities to Act 48 continuing-education requirements and introduces a new 13-month learning map to better align professional development with the district's priorities. Johnston told the committee the plan emphasizes two instructional priorities identified in feedback and data: strengthening standards-aligned progressions in literacy and math, and improving the consistency and clarity of instructional expectations and communication.
The three plans will be posted for the required public review period and then submitted to the state; the presenters asked the committee for approval to post the materials for public comment.
