House honors Maryland Library Day and state championship teams; committee schedules set

The House of Delegates used part of its ceremonial time on Feb. 10 to recognize Maryland Library Day, welcome the state librarian and the Maryland Library Association president to the gallery, and to honor championship teams from Clarksburg High School (girls varsity flag football) and Stephen Decatur High School (men's soccer).

A delegate from Anne Arundel County introduced the Maryland Library Day resolution, noting services that local libraries provide — including database access, homework help and distribution of Wi‑Fi hotspots and Chromebooks — and asked the chamber to join in recognizing librarians as public servants. The clerk read the library resolution into the record. The Montgomery County delegate recognized the Clarksburg High School Coyotes and named coach Casey Landefeld and student-athletes Grace Gentile and Paige Lee, who were present in the gallery. A delegate from Wicomico and Worcester recognized the Stephen Decatur High School men's team for a 4–1 victory in the state 3A final and cited season records and key players.

Committee chairs and members announced scheduled hearings and briefings for the day (Appropriations, Economic Matters, Environment and Transportation, Government, Labor and Elections, Health, Judiciary, Ways and Means, and several subcommittees), and delegation/caucus leaders shared in‑chamber meeting notices and event invitations.

Quotes from chamber speakers included a floor presenter’s statement that libraries "provide free services of information and learning" and are "true public servants that make every one of our districts a better place." The clerks then returned to the day's legislative business.
