Council hears general plan update; staff preview online portal and outreach

City planning staff presented an update on the Holiday general plan during the June 12 meeting, describing work to make the plan easier to read and use and to increase public input through an interactive online portal.
Delaney and Jim (planning staff) said the steering committee and outreach events reaffirmed priorities such as preserving the tree canopy, addressing housing diversity, improving pedestrian and bicycle connections, and protecting parks and natural spaces. Jim described an interactive portal embedded in the plan that will allow residents to view maps and data for their neighborhood and explore land-use, parks, housing and infrastructure information.
Staff described changes to the future land use map, consolidation of land-use categories, and a new “opportunity categories” overlay to signal where the community has expressed comfort with some change. The presentation also covered a constraints map showing floodways and other development limits to help decision-makers justify future actions.
Delaney said a second public questionnaire is open and a draft-plan public event is tentatively scheduled for August, with a planned adoption process in the fall. Council and steering-committee members encouraged continued outreach and offered to help distribute a QR code and outreach materials to broaden participation.
What’s next: Staff will distribute the goals-and-policies questionnaire, roll out the online map portal at the draft-plan event in August and continue public engagement ahead of fall adoption proceedings.
