The City of Sweetwater Commission approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute a joint participation agreement with the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works to procure design and engineering services for widening Southwest 112 Avenue and constructing a bridge connecting SW 112 Avenue to SW H Street. The measure passed on a voice vote with commissioners indicating their support.
Mayor Diaz said the city solicited multiple engineering firms and selected a preferred firm after a procurement process. “We put it out, and we saw that the best company is representing, is before you in this item to do the actual design,” the mayor said, summarizing the selection process and the need to proceed with design to advance the connector project.
Following the agreement authorization, the commission approved a separate work order with BCC Engineering LLC to provide professional land-survey services for SW 112 Avenue from Flagler Street to SW H Street. The mayor explained the survey is necessary to produce accurate boundary and topographic data before design can proceed.
Commission members praised the action as long-awaited work on a corridor that commissioners said will add an additional arterial connection into the city. The two items passed with unanimous support and will allow the city and county to move to detailed design and later construction phases subject to future approvals and funding.
