City Manager outlines CDBG, ODOT, SS4A and façade grant plans for Geneva

City Manager (addressed as "Mister Raquette") told the City of Geneva council on Feb. 9 that the administration will seek federal and state funding to support housing, economic development and roadway-safety projects.
He said the city intends to apply through the county to the Ohio Department of Development for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for 2026 and is eligible for up to $300,000 in Community Housing Impact and Preservation (CHIP) funds to support owner-occupied housing improvements. The city will hold a public hearing on CDBG matters on Feb. 25 at 11 a.m., the manager said.
The manager also reported progress on a façade improvement program (an Appalachian community grant) and said the city had secured $2,000,000 through the ODOT Small Cities program to support planning and construction management with outside firms.
On roadway safety, the manager said Geneva was awarded a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) planning grant for $212,000 with a $53,000 local match to develop a roadway safety action plan aimed at reducing fatalities and serious injuries. He said a steering-committee kickoff meeting is scheduled to begin the planning work.
The announcements also included an administrative plan to seek consultant support for mandated cross-connection and backflow surveys (HydroCorp contracts) and a personnel update to replace a retiring Shade Tree Commission member.
Next steps: the administration will hold the public hearing on Feb. 25 (CDBG), advance façade program outreach and begin the SS4A steering-committee work this week.
