Jackson County approves residential entrance and utility permits, including new fiber lines

At its Feb. 10 meeting the Jackson County Board of Supervisors approved several permits that will allow residential driveway entrances and utility work across the county.
County road staff reviewed a residential entrance permit for Brian Jasper on Centerville Road (Prairie Springs Township Section 17), noting sight-distance was met and that a culvert will be required outside the right-of-way. The board approved the permit on a motion by Supervisor Mike Stitis and seconded by Supervisor Nin Flagle.
The board also approved a residential entrance permit for Adam Fearon on 45th Street in Van Buren Township; staff said the permit requires an off-site distance and a culvert as noted on the application.
On utilities, staff recommended approval of an underground fiber bore by Maquoketa Valley under 188th Street in Farmers Creek Township (Section 5). The board approved the related right-of-way utility permit. During that discussion the transcript references a Kokoda Valley Electric Cooperative permit in the motion language; the office record recommended approval.
A more extensive permit by Lamont Telephone Company was also approved. Lamont plans to place a new fiber line along 308th Street and run service south from the intersection with 395th Avenue to serve nearby residents. County staff said Lamont adjusted a proposed hand hole/junction-box location to avoid conflict with a planned county roadway realignment; staff recommended approval on that basis. "They have set their hand hole or junction box further west to be out of any conflict," county road staff said.
Each permit was approved by voice vote without public comment. The county will process required culvert work and coordinate construction timing with the Roads Department and planned road projects.
