Nicole O’Brien of the Oakland Nature Preserve told the Town of Oakland commission on Jan. 13 that the preserve will be active in the town’s Jan. 31 Heritage Day and is holding an adult fundraiser titled 'Pours at the Preserve.'
O’Brien said Heritage Day will feature nonprofit partners in the preserve area and that the preserve plans an online presale for raffle tickets; on-event raffle sales will run from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. She also said tickets for the preserve’s evening fundraiser will go on sale Jan. 21 at $50 each, and that the event will include hors d’oeuvres and beer and wine.
At the meeting Lynn and event staff also announced the winners of the Trees of the Season exhibit: Oakland Nature Preserve won first place with a display called 'Feathered Friends,' and the preserve will receive a $300 donation from sponsor Nicole Hurley. Smaller awards and sponsor mentions included Polka Dogs Rescue (second place), Winter Garden Tree Care (third place) and Prairie House Coffee (honorable-mention sponsorship).
Next steps: The preserve will open registration for raffle presales and ticket sales as announced; town staff acknowledged the preserve’s requests for volunteer help and said they would publicize opportunities.
