Residents raise trash-collection complaints; town outlines Waste Pro complaint process
Summary
At the Jan. 13 Oakland commission meeting, residents described missed recycling and debris left after pickups. Town staff said Waste Pro uses a resident web form, in-truck cameras, and multiple truck passes and asked residents to report missed service immediately so staff can verify and enforce the contract.

Residents at the Town of Oakland commission meeting on Jan. 13 raised concerns about missed recycling and trash pickups in Johns Landing and Johns Cove, and town staff explained how residents should report problems under the Waste Pro contract.
Anne Fulton said crews sometimes left debris beside bins and that crane-truck collection sometimes resulted in material falling off and being left behind. She told commissioners the contract allows penalties for service failures but noted a lack of clear accountability when residents file complaints directly with Waste Pro.
Town staff responded that Waste Pro has an Oakland-specific page with a complaint form on its website, and that the contract requires service completion between roughly 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.; if a route is not finished the same day, Waste Pro is required to return. Staff said Waste Pro maintains cameras and barcode tracking on trucks, which allows verification of whether a can was at the curb when a truck passed. If a missed pickup is reported before noon, staff said the company is expected to make the same-day collection or return the next day.
Staff urged residents to submit complaints through the Waste Pro web form and to notify town staff if issues are not resolved; town staff said on-site verification by a town employee (Scott) is needed to assess repeated failures and to hold Waste Pro accountable for contract fines.
Next steps: Residents were asked to submit missed-pickup complaints via the Waste Pro link on the town website; if residents do not get a response, the Town will investigate and Scott will attempt to verify the missed service so contract remedies can be pursued.
