Oakland commission approves consent items, awards Top Notch grounds contract

The Town of Oakland commission approved most items on its consent agenda at a Jan. 13 meeting and unanimously authorized a single contractor for town landscaping work.
Mayor Shane Taylor and commissioners voted to approve routine items including minutes and approvals tied to ONP 'Pours at the Preserve' and an independent-contractor agreement for RFP 202501, with two items (item C regarding elections tabulator language and item E regarding common-ground maintenance) pulled for separate discussion.
Staff told commissioners they had solicited cost estimates from three vendors to consolidate the town's landscaping contracts into one vendor. According to the presentation, Top Notch submitted the lowest price and the town expected to save roughly $50,000 annually by consolidating work and taking on some lawn maintenance in-house.
A motion to award the common-grounds maintenance contract to Top Notch was made, seconded and approved by voice vote with all commissioners voting in favor.
The commission did not adopt changes to the pulled elections-tabulator item during the meeting but set item E aside for direct discussion so members could review documents that were missing from the meeting packet.
Next steps: Town staff will finalize the contract documents with Top Notch and follow up with commissioners about the previously pulled packet material. The commission moved on to public forum after completing the votes.
