Police Chief Corey Stroman presented the department's annual racial-profiling report during the Feb. 10 council meeting, describing the department's stop-level documentation and outside review process.
Chief Stroman said officers complete a racial-profiling report for every pedestrian or traffic stop that an officer initiates. The stop form records the reason for the stop, whether a search was conducted, whether contraband was found and the disposition of the stop, among other items, he said. The department compiles that data and sends it to Dr. Alex Del Carmen for independent review, a practice the chief said the department has maintained for several years.
"The data reflects that still consistently pretty across the board," Chief Stroman said on the record, summarizing his presentation that noted no issues identified in the compiled reports. He framed the reporting requirement as a legislatively mandated check on law enforcement and said the department supports the multiple systems of oversight.
No council questions beyond thanks were recorded immediately after the presentation.
