Douglas County honors Captain Patrick West, proclaims Black History Month and recognizes retiring corrections employee

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution honoring Captain Patrick West, who served nearly 36 years with the Department of Corrections. Michael Myers, director of corrections, read the resolution and thanked West for mentorship, leadership and contributions to security operations and reentry work; family members attended the recognition.
The board also approved a recognition for Joseph Gadeck, a corrections employee retiring after 17 years of service. Commissioner remarks thanked both employees for long service and sacrifices associated with corrections work.
Commissioner Rogers read a proclamation declaring February 2026 as Black History Month, citing historical milestones and notable Black Americans; the board approved the proclamation 6–0.
The recognitions passed without opposition and the board recessed to convene the Board of Corrections to hear the director's report.
