Board directs county attorney to draft amendment to administrator’s contract over leave payout

The board reviewed an inspector general audit that flagged leave payouts to the county administrator related to the transition from regular employee to contracted administrator. Meeting materials showed two additional payouts in December 2023 totaling $8,715.38. The administrator’s leave carryover from prior employment was also discussed.
Commissioner Ron moved and Commissioner Sadiq seconded a motion to direct the county attorney to prepare, in cooperation with the county administrator, a draft amendment to authorize retroactively a second 80‑hour payment of vacation in lieu for 2023, allow for carryover leave balances on transition to contract employment, and correct scrivener’s errors in the contract. County Attorney offered to draft the amendment and that motion passed by voice vote, 7–0.
County Attorney said she would craft the amendment language and assist in preparing the appropriate motion and documents for the board to adopt at a future meeting. No individual salary or additional contract terms beyond the leave rollover and the corrective edits were changed at this session.
The chair instructed staff to return with a draft amendment; the board voted to approve the directive unanimously.
