Bonner County commissioners on Feb. 10 approved a contract with Patriot Fire Protection to repair and test the Administration Building’s sprinkler system for up to $9,278.
Teddy Lupton, speaking for Facilities, outlined the work: repack fire pump packing for $4,298; replacement of obsolete sprinkler heads due for UL testing; lift rental estimated at $3,548; five‑year testing of the wet and dry stand pipe systems for $1,432; total $9,278 to come from repairs and maintenance (account 001107530). "The total amount for all the services that need to be done to bring the administration building up to fire code is $9,278," Lupton said.
Several commissioners questioned whether the cost had been anticipated in the current budget and whether the county’s own lift could be used to avoid rental fees. Facilities said the expense was not anticipated in the current year but believed the department could absorb it by reprioritizing line items; staff agreed to follow up with auditing to identify the specific source of funds and to confirm whether county equipment could be used. One commissioner asked that, if staff can confirm county equipment is not available, the contract exclude the lift rental cost if the contractor can use county equipment or insurance allows equipment substitution.
A motion to approve the Patriot Fire Protection services up to $9,278 passed on a roll call vote. Staff committed to provide a follow‑up on whether the rental charge can be reduced or eliminated and to report clearly where the funds were drawn from within the repairs and maintenance account.
