The Barnegat Township Board of Education approved a series of committee motions and personnel recommendations during its January meeting and accepted the resignation of the district’s director of curriculum and instruction.
On consent and committee business the board voted to approve the agenda and to adopt minutes from the December meeting (two abstentions were recorded on the minutes because those members were not present in December). The board then approved motions from the finance committee (motions 1–9), athletics committee (motions 1–3), education committee (motions 1–5), governance committee (motions 1–4) and the personnel committee (motions 1–20). All motions were carried according to roll call votes recorded in the meeting.
In new business, the board approved the HIB (harassment, intimidation or bullying) incident report as presented in executive session. The board approved the transfer of Karen McBee from certified school nurse to registered nurse at Barnegat High School effective Feb. 1, 2026, with an annual salary of $56,163 (step 16 for the 2025–26 school year). The board also approved a sidebar agreement for flag football.
The board unanimously accepted the resignation of Raymond J. (Jim) Barbieri, director of curriculum and instruction, effective March 15, 2026. Barbieri had earlier told the board he submitted his resignation and thanked colleagues for the opportunity to serve. "I did recently, submit my letter, resignation," Barbieri said. Several members offered well‑wishes; Miss Continenza said, "I wish Jim the best in his new position and wish him all the luck; he'll be missed." Board President Mister Sarno and others publicly thanked Barbieri for his service.
What happens next: Personnel changes and hires listed in tonight’s motions will be reflected in district records. The administration will advertise or appoint interim coverage and present next steps following Barbieri’s departure.
