Waxahachie ISD bond update: WHS construction moving, Coleman track near completion; Findlay fine‑arts renovation approved

Facilities staff provided the board an update on Bond 2023 work and related Proposition A/C projects and the trustees approved a separate fine‑arts renovation at Findlay Junior High.

Mister Mott told trustees the Coleman Track had its final surface layer completed and that painting and line work were scheduled once temperatures remain consistently above 55 degrees; the district expects site takeover by about Feb. 19 barring weather delays. He outlined multiple work zones at the new Waxahachie high school (exterior sheathing, roofing, CMU/block work, columns, and slabs) and said the gym "topping out" with large beams is planned for April. He also described summer plans at seven or eight campuses for major maintenance (flooring, doors/hardware, HVAC, marquees, playground covers) under Proposition C and noted some campuses will close temporarily for safety during those projects.

As a separate action (item H), the board approved Alternate No. 1 for Findlay Junior High fine‑arts renovations at a cost not to exceed $6.5 million, with funds identified from project cost savings and investment earnings in Proposition A funds. Administration said the change would bring Findlay’s fine‑arts spaces in line with other junior highs by next school year.

Trustees asked clarifying questions about which projects were Prop A vs. Prop C; staff confirmed marquee items were Prop A and the listed renovations were Prop C. Board members also discussed coordination with TxDOT and the prime contractor on adjacent road work.
