Coweta honors teachers who took part in Industrial Fellowship program; teachers say experiences improved classroom relevance

The Coweta County Board of Education recognized teachers who participated in the Coweta Industrial Fellowship for Teachers, a district program launched in 2015 connecting K–12 teachers with local businesses and government entities.
Teachers who visited companies including Grinsenbach Corporation, Cargill and Yamaha described translating workplace practices into classroom lessons. "We had an absolutely life changing experience witnessing how the things we teach in our elementary classrooms directly translate to the skills that our students are gonna need when they enter the workforce," said teacher Caitlin Armstrong.
Participants described bringing back lessons on accountability, communication, precision and problem solving, and highlighted classroom applications such as building robots to teach place value and using manufacturing dimensions to reinforce measurement standards. The district thanked community partners including the city of Newnan, the Newnan Development Authority and the Coweta County Development Authority for supporting the program.
