Coweta school finance and facilities update: sales tax receipts strong; multiple renovation projects underway

At the Dec. 9 Coweta County Board of Education meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Finance Keith Chapman gave the budget and sales tax update and the superintendent reviewed facilities and construction activity across the district.
Chapman said the month was slightly over budget by approximately $200,000 and that the district had completed 41.67% of the fiscal year and expended 41.62% of the budget. He reported sales tax receipts for the month were "just under $3,400,000."
The superintendent provided a facilities update detailing current projects and closeouts: demo began at the Central Educational Center addition, the Arnold Middle School kitchen reroof closeout and final pay request remain under review, and closeout documents are being reviewed for shield projects and central office modifications. Planned summer work includes interior finishes, paint, flooring, restroom modifications, security upgrades and replacement of damaged sidewalks at selected schools. The district is working on reroof drawings for East Coweta Middle and Elm Street projects and on shield/access control projects at East Coweta High and Northgate High; the superintendent characterized completing those projects as a district safety priority.
Board members congratulated the board for being named a GSBA 'exemplary board' and briefly commented on athletics and holiday wishes before making a motion to enter executive session to discuss personnel, real estate and potential litigation.
