Coweta schools outline multi‑site renovations and possible stadium turf replacements

Facilities staff updated the Coweta County Board of Education on Jan. 13 about ongoing and planned construction work across the district, outlining active demolition, completed maintenance and upcoming summer projects.
The report said demolition is underway at Central Educational Center (phase 1: Wing B and half of Wing E) with electricians installing conduit, and that interior finishes and security upgrades are included in upcoming renovation scopes. Officials reported a completed reroof at Arnold Middle School’s kitchen and completion of previous shield projects at remaining middle schools and other sites.
Staff said final plans are being submitted to the Department of Education for approval for summer renovations at Arnold Middle, Jefferson Parkway Elementary and Thomas Crossroads Elementary, including interior finishes, painting, flooring, drinking fountain replacement, intercom and camera updates and sidewalk repairs. The district also plans re‑roofs at East Coweta Middle and Elm Street Elementary and additional shield/access control installations at East Coweta High and Northgate High School.
Facilities staff described stadium turf replacement planning: East Coweta High School turf is under consideration for replacement this summer, with possible turf replacement at Northgate High and Newnan High School the following summer. When asked about schedule, staff estimated a projected completion window of about 18 to 24 months for Central Educational Center modifications, noting weather and material availability as variables.
The board was asked to expect construction activity to ramp up in the coming months and was told final plan submissions and Department of Education approvals remain necessary steps before work proceeds.
No formal board action on large capital spending was recorded in the public portion of the meeting; staff were directed to submit corrected state application materials and to continue project planning.
