RSU 10 sends medication-administration policy back to committee; community-use policy adopted
Summary

The Western Foothills RSU 10 school board referred a revised JLCD policy on administration of medicine to the policy committee for further review and adopted a separate revision to KF on community use of school facilities.
During the second reading of JLCD, board members raised concerns about whether the policy should specify training for designated school personnel who might administer epinephrine or naloxone and whether the district should adopt a collaborative practice agreement. Board member Kristen, citing her research on statute and collaborative practice agreements, moved to send the policy back to the policy committee for a deeper review; another board member seconded the motion and the board approved the referral by voice vote.
Kristen said the decision about collaborative practice agreements affects whether medical personnel only, or designated unlicensed staff, could administer these medications and noted that the district did not yet have a publicly accessible life-threatening allergy protocol on the district website. The board did not adopt JLCD at second reading; it will return to policy committee for revisions.
Separately, the board took the second reading of revised KF (community use of school facilities). Motion made by Bonnie, seconded, and the board adopted the revised KF policy by unanimous voice vote.
