Executive Director Stillman reviewed the commission’s budget posture (a continuation budget with no large new requests) and described several legislative measures carrying the commission’s recommendations: Senate Bill 1622 and House Bill 1369 (a one‑time fine waiver for reporting individuals), Senate Bill 964 and House Bill 6011 (clarify filing location for Form 10 gift disclosures), Senate Bill 572 and House Bill 603 (expand gift law definitions to reference foster families), and Senate Bill 1546 (public records exemption for commission staff/members, with a CS in the House expanding the exemption). Staff also summarized competing whistleblower proposals (CS/SB 92 and HB 139) and noted differences in implementation and fiscal impact; staff said the commission could absorb the whistleblower workload if requested but the Florida Commission on Human Relations had filed a fiscal estimate.
Commissioners asked staff to continue tracking bills and to return to the commission with updates during committee season and prior to the next meeting.
