Chad Gerhardt was elected chair of the Shawnee County Planning Commission in a unanimous roll-call vote at the commission’s February meeting, and Rosa Cavazos was elected vice chair. The nominations were made and seconded on the record before commissioners voted.
The nominations came early in the meeting as commissioners also addressed multiple zoning and regulatory agenda items, including a staff recommendation on rezoning parcels along Northwest Topeka Boulevard and Northwest 39th Street and a follow-up public hearing on proposed solar energy conversion regulations.
The votes were procedural: the commission confirmed the leadership that will preside over upcoming agenda items and public hearings. With a chair and vice chair selected, the body proceeded to take testimony and make recommendations on zoning and the county’s draft solar regulations.
The meeting record shows the commission immediately moved into substantive business after the officer elections, including staff presentations and public comment periods that led to formal recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners.
