Pepper Pike council adopts labor agreement, confirms engineering and legal appointments

Pepper Pike City Council adopted an emergency ordinance authorizing a labor agreement with the city’s bargaining unit and proceeded to confirm several appointments and routine ordinances at its Jan. 13 organizational meeting.
Mayor (unnamed) said the council had reviewed key portions of the agreement in executive session before asking the body to suspend the rules and adopt the measure on an emergency basis. “I want to extend the appreciation of the city to the members of the bargaining unit for their productive engagement in the negotiation and reaching a conclusion of the city, which I think is both excellent for members of our service department as well as for the city and the residents of Pepper Pike,” the mayor said, and publicly thanked acting human resources director Josefisco and Treasurer/Finance Director Peter Recintorp for their work.
The council also approved Ordinance 20 25‑25 on third reading, confirming the reappointment of Mr. Sheehan and Chagrin Valley Engineering as city engineer. Council then adopted Ordinance 20 26‑O‑2 to confirm Byron as law director; the roll call included two ‘no’ votes and the ordinance passed.
Other formal actions included authorization for the service director to sell surplus vehicles (a 2007 International mini packer, a 2020 Ford Explorer from the police fleet and two 2018 Kubotas), confirmation of the director of public safety, election of Colonel Rice as vice mayor and the appointment of Jackie Godick as the council’s representative on the planning commission. The council also reappointed Peter Francator as treasurer.
The mayor said the emergency ordinance on the labor agreement will be executed following the vote. Several votes were taken by roll call during the meeting; the council recorded adoption of the listed ordinances and confirmations during the session.
What’s next: the city will execute the labor agreement, incorporate minor contract revisions to the law‑director contract as discussed, and proceed with the surplus‑property sale process under the service director’s direction.
