County to contract $750,000 to preserve 14 affordable rental units, funding split disclosed

Thurston County’s Public Health & Social Services department asked commissioners to approve two contracts totaling $750,000 with Homes First to preserve affordable rental housing.
Director Jen Fry said Homes First had originally proposed repairs for 16 units but submitted a revised budget to complete repairs on 14 units the county funds would support. The repairs listed include siding, insulation, roof and window replacement, furnace replacement, piping and electrical upgrades to keep the units safe and affordable for households at or below 60% area median income.
Fry explained the county previously approved a preliminary funding award for the project on June 17, 2025. She said $582,416 of the funding will come from an HP‑14/6 local sales and use tax fund and $167,584 will come from a local document recording fee, and staff recommended contract approval so repairs can proceed.
Commissioners had no substantive objections and the item was placed on the consent calendar for the Feb. 17 business meeting.
